I feel like I should like this series more than I do - I'm trying, but it's not working.
Just like with the first book, I found that I could not relate to the main female character. Not even a little bit. Even though Anya is very different from Ashlyn. I noticed from reading other reviews that a lot of people really seemed to like Anya, but I did not. I found her annoying and childish. She's supposed to be thousands of years old? No, I don't think so. That was disappointing to me b/c I appreciate female characters who are sarcastic, witty and sassy.
I also wasn't having the "romance" between her and Lucien. I felt like one minute she's just trying to get him to make out with her b/c she thinks he's hot. And then there's Lucien who thinks she is hot, but isn't going for it b/c he thinks she's a total slut. Then OMG Lucien sees that she can fight and he's in love. Then it turns out that Anya's not a total slut - she just acts like one! And then Anya falls in love with him b/c....I can't remember...why does she fall in love with Lucien?
IMO, I found the whole love story to be very shallow.
I just didn't connect with the book at all. It took me a while to read. I found myself skimming over parts. I will attempt to read the 3rd book in this series, but not for a long time. There are too many other books on my TBR shelf that I want to get to first.
